What Should We Do?
Language Discussion
A. The following lesson should be done in a standard five (5) sentence paragraph with a minimum of 55 words that contains an opening hook sentence, three (3) discussion sentences, and a closing sentence.
1. On a piece of paper, in a single paragraph, without your name on the paper, describe a situation which might cause you to use foul, obscene, abusive, or offensive language towards some other person. Take five (5) minutes to do this.
2. Collect all papers and distribute them randomly to different students. Have the students read the situation aloud in class and have the class suggest ways to handle the situation without using foul, obscene, abusive, or offensive language.
Model Format
As I looked again at the straight uphill three-footer, several words came into my mind, and my mind wanted to send them screaming out of my mouth. I had just missed an easy three-foot putt in a golf tournament and I really wanted to say these words out loud. I was with other three other players and they could tell that I was mad. It was decision time. Do I let my mind control my mouth and resist the scream tendency or do I go for the primal scream?
