For this activity, students will have the chance to use a variety of organizers.
Students will create an organizer to match
their writing.
To start off, have students write a paragraph
describing how to do some task they are
familiar with (make a favorite food, tie a shoe,
get home from school…).
Once it is in paragraph form, have students
work backwards and put the information into
different types of organizers (charts, timeline, cause and effect chart, or web)
might not) might/ or might not work well for this piece.
Demonstrate the ways to manipulate these
organizers to see which ones might work (flow
chart, timeline, list, paragraph organizer) and
which do not work as well with the text they
have written (Venn diagram, cause and effect chart, web)Processing:
1. Why do you need to arrange directions in a way that can be easily understood?
2. How can making a list or categorizing help you with your daily demands (homework, chores, etc.)?
3. What happens to the directions when are listed out of order?
4. How does clear communication affect organization?
