Body Language Activity

Objective:  Build skills of observing non-verbal communication
WARNING- the class must be pretty comfortable with each other for this to work!
Materials:  None
Activity:
Have the group form a loose circle.  The facilitator calls out a feeling (angry, joyful, proud, etc.) and participants strike a pose for ten seconds without talking, expressing these different emotions through their body language and facial expressions.
Processing:
Which emotion was the easiest to identify on others?  Why?
Which emotion was the easiest to show/ identify?  Why?
How much of what we say is actually communicated through just our words? (about 10-20%)  The rest is voice fluxuations, projection, posture, facial expressions, hand gestures, etc.
