Appropriate Language

1.                What kind of language do you consider to be appropriate for the school setting?  What kind of language do you consider inappropriate?  (not words, but types of language)

2.                Discuss how your language in school can positively and negatively affect others who hear you.

3.                Describe a time when you used inappropriate language or said something that offended another person.  What were the consequences?

4.                If you were put into a situation where you were with a group of people who were swearing and it bothered you or other people around you, what would be the responsible thing for you to do?

5.                Describe a time when someone, including yourself, may have used offensive language and it became a problem.  How could you have done things differently in that situation?

Possible School Consequences for Inappropriate Language

Listed below are some potential consequences for offensive language in school which students may be subject.  Students need to be aware that the school, the district, and local police authorities will take offensive and abusive language seriously.

·       Cited for interference with school

·       Disorderly conduct

·       Suspension from school
