Sharing Emotions

The following baby illustrates the internal need we all have to communicate with people.

Discussion questions:
What was dad doing that may have contributed to the baby talking so much? (nodding, eye contact, etc.)
Did the baby know what she was saying?
Did the parents understand what was being said?
Was there body language that was taking place?

Our need to communicate is innate (built-in).  That is why babies cry, tears fall when we are sad, and our heart pounds when we are nervous.  Our body is built to show what we are feeling.

A study was done to measure stress levels in people who were asked not to show emotion.  These people were asked to watch a sad show.  They were hooked up to machines that measured their blood pressure and heart rate.  Half of the people were asked not to cry.  The people who were asked not to cry showed increased levels of stress.  Whereas, the people who were able to cry remained in a state of peace.

Holding back emotions leads to stress.  Communicate how you feel.
